For the balancer it is best to find something that is somewhat bigger than the bolt hole in the middle like a big socket on a short extension to tap on the center. Important if you need to whack on it some that you hammer ONLY on the center portion of it where it's solid metal and not on the outer ring.
Sometimes I have even used a longer bolt of the same thread as the one that goes there along with the big washer to 'press' it onto the snout. Regardless it's usually always a pain, especially with a new one. A bit of fine sandpaper to remove any paint and flash on the inside of the balancer helps too. Once it is on there far enough to get 4 or 5 threads of it's regular bolt started, use that bolt to complete pressing it on by tightening it. Putting it in park or gear will help keep the motor from spinning as you tighten the bolt. An air impact is good too, once you are DEAD SURE there are plenty of threads started and they are started DEAD STRAIGHT with NO chance of crossthreading.
Just curious, when you set the two balancers one on top of the other, keyways lined up, how do the timing marks on both look? Line up ... off ... what?

The marks were not lined up. I know the timing is off. I am using a timing light and all and its still not lining up. I suck at this part.
We found compression stroke, set the damper mark on 0, set dist to #1 position, looked with timing light. It looks off and its very hard for me to judge where the mark is (I used silver marker to see it better). We have dont this about 8-10 times already with no luck.
Any help setting this timing exact would be very much appreciated. And any more info on how to use this light would be great also.

let see if you have thing set right
get it back to TDC
draw a line strait down from the #1 plug wire terminal on the DIS cap
draw the line onto the DIS
now remove the cap if the rotor is not pointed at the mark or close
you need to reset the DIS

Oh boy, Oh boy ... we're really close now, K, Mike, Fan, Cap'n, Dan and everyone else who contributed or followed. I can sense that the never-ending-thread-from-hell is soon to end. What are we gonna do with ourselves ? Think I'll start by havin' a beer ... then another beer ... and a shot of Irish Wiskey ... and another beer ... and so on.
Mike37 has said it exactly right ... plus one more on all that. Get that distributizerator in that-thar motor right and I'm bettin' you'll be good to go

Well we're still off but working on it.
With the light, the mark is after TDC or past the 0 mark. I am trying...
Which way do i move the dist to advance and retard? I mean the jeeps retarded but I need the timing advanced some, I think, LOL
