something happened and i think the starter or solenoid burned up cause it wont crank just click. It wont start now at all. I am done! I give up, the jeep won...all this work and time I cant do it anymore. I think Im gonna put it up for sale and try to find something else this week or when I come back from vac.
My friend has given up too. he said we have done and tried everything he can possibly think of and its not helping so just take the loss and sell...

Oh how I feel bad for you karen7. The only thing worse than not knowing how to do something yourself is depending on someone that knows no more than you do.

I cried alot over the last couple hrs and feel a little better. I knew 1 last person who "can fix anything or it'll never be fixed" kind of guy. He was very stern and yelled toward me cause of so many hands he wouldn't know where to start, but he agreed to come look at it wed nite if not tomorrow. He always gets to clean up everyone else's messes so he gets pi**ed about it but thats understandable.

He said from what I told him it still sounds like timing and we are just not lining it up properly. This guy really is great at what he does. If he can NOT fix it then I guess I'll admit defeat and sell.

I am so angry at this thing because I know we are so close...

Yup ... it really does sound like timing ... has all along ... but assumption is the mother of all f'ups when it comes to a case like this ... BTW, does it crank now?

The Cap'n is totally right on this point ... Right on, Cap'n!! ... take some time off ... regroup ... this man you're talkin' to sounds good ... gonna' pm you my phone ... feel free to use it whenever ... on second thought ... just gonna' put it here. Anyone can call who wants to talk about this case ... sometimes stuff gets lost in the transcription as I don't think any of us are technical writers .. we're wrenches, hobbists and thinkers ... can we talk? ...951.443.9708. Steve aka Wiz is my name.

Hello Karen
If the ecu controls timing, and timing is adjusted using only cam sensor and cps, but the cam sensor is not hitting right cause the gears on the cam itself are lined up, that would cause timing to be off regardless of what we do?
There is no cam sensor on a Renix system, the sesnsor in the distributor is just a timing advancer for high RPMs, will work even if unplugged, basically useless.
The timing light is showing it being about 1" past the 0 mark on the HB after TDC even tho we set it right on everytime. Where the mark is showing under the timing light is never changing no matter how much we advance or retard the HB or dist teeth.
Timing should be 5 deg advanced (before 0) at idle speed.

Quick Reply: timing? What else could it be?
