Default Tips and answers

So we planned on going camping this weekend and everybody keeps telling me if I'll make it in my XJ and I say we can since it's only a 2 hour drive, I've had no problem of my jeep over heating what so ever I've bought some hood vents to keep it cool but then they mention old vehicles tend to over heat while going up into high altitudes that I don't know??? Can anybody give me tips on what I should do while climbing them hills over and over should I put it on overdrive?? Let me know please and thank you all much appreciated.

Well you didn't really give any details on your ride so it's hard to give any informed advice. Like have you had overheating issues, do you keep it maintained? Cherokees are tough, if you are not having issues and do your maintenance, go for it. I drive mine everywhere, lifted and loaded. If you are worried, lay off the AC going up big hills.

Well I'm driving from Phoenix to some place that's 2 hours away to camp, I have no issues on my cherokee over heating ever since I bought it and maintain it well, my worry is once reaching the mountains while driving on the freeway if it'll over heat, do you get what I mean?

Go for it. If you are worried about it, then take extra fluids with. If you keep it maintained like you say, it'll be fine. Have you driven it for long periods of time other places? If so, and it does okay, don't worry. Just keep an eye on it, and if it starts to act differently, pull over and assess the situation.

The cooling system is an important part of a healthy cherokee...since you have owned it, have you replaced anything? Before you go, check coolant condition, if it's nasty looking and muddy, flush it. Check your hoses. Verify proper operation. Have you noticed any coolant loss?

The 4.0 is designed to run hot. They run around 210 at operating temperature. Where are you going camping?
