Tire on the highway.
I'm at college and vry far away from home, about 6 hours highway. I made the decision to run streets again to get here, but now im depressed cause my tires are severely undersized and ugly on a lifted jeep. Some one told me that mud tires would melt on the highway, but i've done hour long ski trips in the winter. If i were to have my tires on could I make it home with out severe damage? would it be better to do it in the winter in cooler temps? btw they are kumho kl71's and i would only make that 600 mile round trip bout 2 times a year.

any mud tire doesnt lasdt as long as a road tire on the highway, that is due to the the softer rubber compound. However i run my super swampers on a 750 mile round trip a few times a sememster and then we travel all around the southwest(az, nm, tx,co,nv) in my jeep because we can haul all of the bikes and gear on mine and then take more fuel efficient cars for passengers. I even tow with my super swampers and they are holding up just fine!!!

i drive my goodyear duratrac mudders all over texas and they are fine. and we have had temps about 115 forever lately so the black roads are probably over 150-180 degrees. no melting for me

get a set of stock wheels and take the mudders with you. When you arrive home put them back on (maybe a couple of miles before you arrive home, lol, so parents get the good look of the jeep).

It's not so much that mud tires "melt" per se; rather, they wear down faster.
You should be fine. I run a AT/MT hybrid 500 miles to college and have yet to notice any bad wear.
