well it was more then a 1/4 and very sloppy looking. From what I understand about the vehicle the drive shaft was never lengthened. You can definitely tell that there is no room for movement if the axle were to travel backwards for some reason.

 

honestly... sounds like a load of ****.... I would get a second opinion and not mention the first shops recomendations and see what they say you need. all of that at once sounds like somone is behind on the bills... or they aren't confdent enough to find the CORRECT problem the first time and want to throw everything at it.

 

when lift was done were longer control arms used ,lifting with out them causes the front axle to swing in towards the center of xj causing drive shaft to shorten

 

that is what it looks like to me but I asked the previous owner he did say it was a long arm kit. They are adjustable on one end.

 

possibly adjusted wrong is the front tire sitting in the center of the wheel well

 

yep looks pretty in the middle to me. I have only had it a week and I looks to me to be centered.

 

thats a good sign very possible wrong shaft then can you put up some pics of front shaft it will help get better answers on the length issue when its daylight

Here is a update...
So the front differential was not as bad as they thought so the ring and pinion stayed in and they just replaced the seals and bearings, which brought down the cost. They also shortened the drive shaft up front and also replace the u joints in the front axle. They told me they also had to pound off the front units and they told me they were on there last legs. I was wondering what is the exact name because I am not getting anything returned in my good searched for "91 Jeep Front units" so a little help on this issue I think that I can do those myself.

 

well thats good on the diff. seamed odd to me. most placed pound them off rather then buying a puller which does not ruin them, but sometimes there is no other way. but only delt with that once.

the front wheel beairings are a unit bearing. all 84-2001 xj's had them. (xj unit bearing, xj front wheel bearing ect)

got the jeep back today, with the rebuilt diff and new u joints for front axle and drive shaft. They also told me that that control arms are the wrong kind need longer or adjustable ones, and that the wobble at around 45-50 is from the track bar joint. So any suggestions in track bars and new adjustable/longer control arms for upper and lower.

 

for that i would take a pic or two so we know what you have now, as in long arms or short. drop brackets or not ect. as you stated the previous owner said it was LA, but if its short arm the answer would be totally different.
