It's an 18' 1996 Crest with a 50 hp Johnson. Goes a whopping 16 mph.

We just got it last month.

I've spent the last week adding a nice stereo system, lights everywhere, added a battery to the circuit and other little stuff.
Mines a 20' Sylvan with a 40 horse Force. I'm envious of 16 mph, you speed demon you. I'd guess if I put a sail on it, I'd maybe get 13~14 mph.

I'm on the hunt for a 100+ HP Johnson...

There's no sense in pulling something that you can't stop in a reasonable amount of time.
I did tow my buddies 25' bentley from the Marina to the upholstery shop, about 8 miles.
Never. Do. That. -- Ever.

Dont' get me wrong, I had power to pull it, but I stayed at 40-50mph bc that monster had a mind of it's own, even with trailer brakes. I guess I got a little over zealous that day....

He has a 125hp, and it runs about 20-22mph.....My boat planes out at 20mph....

I'd be happy with a 60-75 four stroke anything. They're so quiet and no mixing of gas. Mine likes to load up after putting around a lot.

Yeah, it's going to take some getting used to. I sold my 14' fiberglass Jet Boat to fund this Pontoon Purchase. I needed something bigger and more laid back for the growing family. The Jet Boat would do 60mph in about 5 seconds.

Yeah, 4 stroke would be nice... This one doesn't seem to like to idle correctly. At higher RPM it puuuurs. At idle it wants to stumble and die.

Nice must be fun going that fast that quick in a boat lol. Have you checked the carb or adjusted it. Our boat did the same thing until we adjusted the carb on it

I haven't messed with it yet.

I'm a dummy when it comes to carbs. I hate fooling with them. My best guess is that it's dropping a cylinder at idle. Probably just needs a good cleaning.

Seafoam helped mine quite a bit. Outboard carbs are pretty simple really. I lean out the oil/gas mixture every other fill up and it seemed to like it at idle.
