Tow Package add on.

Tow Package add on.
I am looking at a 1995 Cherokee 4dr Country as a restoration project. It did not come with a tow package. My question is: did the factory tow package come with any enhancements (like HD Springs or Transmission Cooler) other than the receiver and wiring? If I add the receiver would it still be rated at 5000lbs?
Thanks for your help.

Yes, factory tow package had a tranny cooler. I run one from O Reilly after the heat exchanger in series with the radiator. A class 5 hitch will tie in at the farthest point in the frame rail from the rear bumper. I grabbed a class 3 hitch off Craigslist and a pair of JCR nutstrips to make the install easier.
Don't worry about the springs unless you are planning on towing something that heavy.

The tow package included a small trans cooler. You absolutely need one to tow anything of weight with an XJ. It also didn't have a rear swaybar either.
No your XJ will not be rated at 5000 lbs unless you put a weight distributing hitch on it. (This is very commonly stated as the towing capacity with a normal hitch which is incorrect)
With a standard receiver hitch the XJ's towing capacity is 2000lbs.
