TPS Sensor Question

TPS Sensor Question
I think I might need a new TPS because my 1989 jeep Cherokee is running on high rpms in park idling is around 2300 and in drive its around 1500 but when I unplug the TPS wiring it goes back to normal idling I did clean the IAC and butterfly, I did not look at the MAP at all though, so my big question is will it hurt my jeep if I run it with no TPS?? Thanks
