Trailer hitch question
I just removed my Reese TowPower towbar from my XJ today as it hung down way too low below the rear bumper. I don't use it enough for it to be worth having it drag the ground all the time while wheeling. though it would be nice to still be able to carry the mountain bikes on their hitch rack so I'm looking for another hitch. I need a towbar that ideally would sit just below the bumper and not hang down much, as well as being relatively narrow to clear my exhuast. What kind of towbar do you guys run? Or is there any particular one you could suggest that has better ground clearance? Thanks in advance!

I have a Curt hitch and it hangs kinda low, but for $60 and it looked new, I'm not complaining.

Check your friendly neighborhood scrapyard. You'd be surprised at how many XJs in the scrapyards have trailor hitches on them. You can find the one you want and just remove it yourself so you have all of the needed hardware and you'll probably get it for half the price of any new one. Spray on a fresh coat of pi$$can black and it will look like new. As a matter of fact, if a junkyard dude quotes you more than half the price of a new, anything, tell him he can keep it and go to the next junkyard down the road.

Funkle.. do you currently have a stock rear bumper? If so and you have thought about getting a good solid aftermarket one.. then look for one that has the receiver included.. Such as this one from JCR.. cant get much higher, out of the way than that... and for $295.. its only a couple hunder or so more than getting just a hitch.

I really like that idea prerunner, as I do still have a stock rear bumper. That setup even has a place to add some ding ding rings for recovery. And for wat I use the hitch for it wouldn't have to have the highest tonque weight rating. I just don't have $300 to drop on it at the moment, I sure wish I did though!
