Default tranny questions

ok. so i have a 92 cherokee sport. 5 speed. stock transmission. dana 35. with air locker running 35" tires. 4.10 gears. when its hot outside or i guess when the vehicle gets hot in general...lets say in traffic or something. i go to take off in 1st gear and there is a violent shaking going on. but it only happens in first gear and while its hot. is this a transmission problem? or something else?

any feedback would be great. i gotta get this figured out.
thanks

clutch chatter!!!!!! i would bet your flywheel is loaded with hot spots from being "slipped" one too many times. 1st gear is the greatest load on the trans so thats why it only happens then.

ya it is 4wd. i have tried it out wheeling. but havent tried it on flat pavement. and when im out wheeling i dont notice it because i hardly ever use the clutch. so i will give that a try. what if it still does the violent shaking? and should i check the engine and tranny mounts to see if their worn? or not tight enough? or both i guess would make sense

if its too bad then yes you will need a new one. sometimes they can be turned like a brake rotor but. if you go through the PITA to get the flywheel out. then consider an entire new clutch set up. flywheel, disc, pressure plate, and throwout with a pilot bearing. no trouble for 100,000 more miles.

and are you pretty sure this is the problem? i dont really want to go through the trouble and cost of a whole new clutch if that wont be the problem? would you recommend possibly taking to AAMCO or something and having them do an assesment? i definetly know my way around my jeep in terms of suspension and engine. but ive never done much transmission work

Sorry did not know it only did it in first.....def not a mount as it will shake in every gear.....prob a slipped or warped clutch, does it do it in 4wd? also does it chatter when takin off from 2nd gear? If it does not chatter from second its most likley a bad clutch because 1st gear will be where the most pressure is applied.

I would not jump to conclusions yet, we are just internet problem solving here......get someone to look at it, last thing you want to do is wast money. Best I can tell from what you write is a clutch, but honestley chattering and shaking could be from almost anything in the drivetrain or engine.
