Put mine on the rubber hose right before it enters the radiator before the cooler.

Isn't it spelled ferrule?

Now, you should know better than to beleive anything you read on e-how. It's even less reliable than Wikipedia!

I use the B&M plate & fin transmission cooler 8" x 11" x 3/4"
Plumbed solo in front of ZJ fan clutch.
Used for deep sand driving.
Utilizes a flow bypass until fluid warms up.

From B&M Racing "'stacked plate' design with multiple oil flow paths. The unit monitors resistance to flow by allowing a controlled amount of ATF to pass through a self-regulating orifice. Controlled by viscosity, thicker ATF is returned directly to lube through two bypass openings in the stacked plate core, while thinner ATF is directed through the core to cool as operating temperatures increase.

Gonna take a lot of fire to kill that. Either someone filled it with asphalt or it's plumbed with a diesel's EGR
