Default Trans fluid leak at bellhousing-TC or pump seal?

Hello Again,

Still working on my stepson's 2000 6 cyl Auto 2WD Cherokee. It seems as if the trans problems continue. Several months ago, it stopped working and would not go no matter what gear. Turns out the fluid was 3 quarts low, burnt and gumming up the filter. after 3 fluid and filter replacement cycles, the vehicle drives and shifts smoothly. The problem now is a steady ATF drip from the bellhousing (~1 qt in 15 miles).

The local auto parts store Jeep expert recommended an new pump seal and Lucas transmission stop slip to recondition the seals. We added the stop slip. It will probably drip out of the trans in the week. Before I go through the seal replacement and find out it is the torque converter leaking, wanted to ask if there is a way to eliminate one or the other.

Thank you for your help again!!

Sounds like your only option is to pull the trans and replace the input seal.

Look at the bright side, you dont have to deal with a transfercase removal.

Yeah, I was afraid of that.

Anything else I should check/change while I have it out (rear seal, TC, U-joints...)?

We are on a tight budget, and my stepson has no money, so we will only do what is needed to make if safe & prevent it from getting worse.
