Default Trans fluid leak help.

Last night i parked my XJ and when i came out to drive to work in the morning there was transmission or gear oil under the truck below the drivers fender and door, when i tried to see if i could tell where it was coming from all i could see was fluid on the frame area next to the drivers front tire... the transmission works fine, i didnt try to engage the 4wd drive though in case it was the transfer case... any one have any ideas? Since i bought the xj its had trouble disengaging the part time 4wd, i usually have to reverse and roll in neutral to get it out.

If it helps i have a 89 limited, automatic, with a np242.Its also stock, no lift or bigger tires.

crawl up under it and figure out where it is exactly coming from, try to see what color it is then post back, might be brake fluid but you would know if it was that if your drove it. when the brake fluid gets low enough a light will come on the dash.

I feel stupid, I haven't had an automatic car in a while and didn't realize the fluid should be red to brown, and smell different, must be gear/ diff oil not atf.
