Alright so the past few weeks I've been having some tranny problems like not shifting out of first gear sometimes, and an occasional downshift when I'm accelerating. The first code was for #2 solenoid so I changed 2 of them while I was in there. It ran great for about 2 weeks and now I'm getting another code P0705.
I was talking to a tranny mechanic near my house and he said to just pull the transmission speed sensor out and clean/dry it out. My question is where exactly is the transmission sensor located? This is my first Jeep so I'm not too educated on this stuff but I'm trying to learn!
It's a 99 sport aw4. Thanks!

i'm no pro for sure, but was having shift problems with mine and some one on here suggested it might be the throttle positioning sensor, so i changed it out and now everything is just peachy!

P0705 is often related to the NSS (neutral safety switch). Below is a link on how to "refurbish" it. That might very well resolve your problem and I would definitely start there with this particular code.
I'd recommend soaking the fasteners for the NSS for a day or two before you try to break them loose, they are often very stubborn.
While you are at it, perform a close inspection of NSS wiring and the connector.
Good luck and keep us updated!

And would the NSS be directly related to the tranny not shifting out of first? I've heard of the NSS being a problem to people who can't start their vehicle but nothing about shifting problems. I'm really clueless to all this stuff so I'm just asking.

So.... is it still sticking in 1'st gear and downshifting at odd times, or did the solenoids resolve those problems?
Yes, the NSS is a common failure. I know in later models (like yours) a failure can affect overdrive and TCC lockup.
The speed sensor, a failure there will almost certainly keep you in 1'st gear. I believe your trans has a front and rear speed sensor, it's the front one I'd check first.
The TPS also has a lot of input into shifting decisions.

Which one of these things would you check first?

I'd fix the NSS first because you know that is throwing a code.
Then I'd test the TPS with a DVM. If it passes, move on to the speed sensor.
When it sticks in 1'st, does it ever upshift on it's own? If so...when?

Alright so I'm just gonna bump this one more time to see if anybody else has some answers.
I'll be taking out the NSS on monday to see if that works unless someone else has a better idea.
