This is definitely worth doing before going off on too many other tangents. Takes 10 seconds to do and will eliminate it as a cause.

If you already found it great. In case anyone else searches this problem here is the link to adjusting your "kickdown cable" for the transmission. Works for almost everybody and is always worth a shot for 1 minute of your time. Here is the "official" writeup:
