Mine kind of does the same except its on city streets around 45mph. it will want to jump from 3 to 4th when I let off the gas then when I press back on the gas. always in comfort mode. On the highway no problem 73mph at 2000 rpm. I did notice in power mode that it wont do that it will just stay in 3rd at city speed limits again 45 mph.
Do the ground refreshing and C101 cleaning since you have an 88.
Never hurts to do the trans plug refreshing along with the general connector refreshing under the hood.
And remember, the "trans" side of your TPS could be bad. It's totally independent of the "engine" side. Do the other stuff first though.

I did pull apart every single connection port and clean them, the big one by the fire wall had yellowish stuff in it. Wasn't black and nasty like some have I assume that's good.

Didn't have a chance this weekend to refresh grounds. Had to install wake tower on the boat. As far as my comfort/power switch I don't think it's working it lights up when in power but there is no change in shifting or anything else. Is it subtle??

It's not subtle. I would bypass the switch into Power mode. Anybody have a write-up for that?
Oh wait. I do.
Bypassing the Power/Comfort Switch
Remove and unplug the switch. In the harness are 3 wires One has a stripe, one is tan, and the other black. Make a 4" jumper wire with a male spade at each end. Plug one end in the cavity for the tan wire and the other in the cavity for the striped wire and you'll be in permanent Power mode. Stuff the harness back in and reinstall the switch for looks.

When I use that power switch it makes my jeep run like a Viper, little depression on the gas pedal and she is gone. Comfort mode makes me feel like its asleep when driving. What is the best mode to drive in? I do think with the higher shift points and more power that the power mode is made for racing (lol) but probably not. Comfort mode is for granny footing it right?

OK. The factory defaulted to Power mode and eliminated the switch in late 91. That tell you something? Comfort mode is Grandma mode and does nothing to help fuel mileage. If it did, they woulda kept it.
Many times the 7.5 amp "trans" fuse is blown in the fusebox and the dang trans will be stuck in Grandma/Comfort mode. You also won't have reverse lights...
The switches are prone to failure so I just bypass them so I have Power mode all the time.

Always a good idea to do this:

ok I finally got time to redo my grounds and that seems to have fixed the shifting problem. I replaced battery to block with a 1/0 awg and added another block to chassis with a 4 awg and added a battery to chassis 8 awg. also replaced my starter wire with a 4 awg and alternator wire with an 8 awg. cleaned all grounding points to bare metal and de greased all other terminals I didn't replace. I also added some new battery terminals, went with nickel coated raptors w/ digital voltage indicator (the toggle switch is to turn off voltage indicator..

Success stories such as yours reinforce the need to do the basics and address known issues before throwing cubic dollars at unneeded parts.

Cruisers brain is a must have for jeep owners. I prefer power mode any day I don't like the feeling of having to put my foot half way into to get to 70 on the highway.
