I want to know what a stock 1989 Jeep cherokee transfer case is? Is it a np231

either that or an np242.

do you have 4x4 full time and 4x4 part time? if so np242. if not, np231

I have to change the 4x4 inside the cab what is that? Part time or full time?

Every jeep can be changed from the cab.

What are the options? 2hi, 4hi, N, 4lo?

Or does it say 4 full time anywhere on it.

Read off the options you have.

Then NP231 it is. There should be a tag on the Tcase as well.

All 4wd vehicles, you have to put into 4wd inside the cab

look at your trasfer case lever, what are the indicators,

2wd-4H-N-4L =NP 231
or

2wd-4part time-4 full time-N-4lo = NP242

GET TO KNOW YOUR JEEP
