Default transfer case front output bearing replacement

is the process for the replacement of the front output bearing on a np242 the same as a np231? couldn't find much info or pictures for the np242, but it seems pretty straight forward for the 231, open the case, remove seal, snap ring, tap the bearing out, reinstall new bearing & seal, and you're good to go? other than a pair of snap rings pliers, will i need anything special?

right now the issue is the front yoke has up and down play and that causes vibes, even in 2wd feels like 4wd at highway speeds. i know a good idea would be to get a rebuild kit, but i was wondering how likely it is that the bearing that's on the rear of the case (see picture) also needs to be replaced? I'll have the parts in hand, just don't know if I can skip it for now and wait another 50-100k miles before doing the rest. the jeep has 130k miles, so i don't think it's due for a whole rebuild.

and finally, on rockauto there is no kit for the 1994+ np242, is the difference only 1 bearing? i'm thinking of getting the wrong kit but buying the bearing separate, just not sure if there's more than 1 difference.

thanks!

i thought i already asked about this and i indeed did, so i checked back on what i posted earlier this year and also made more research, for anyone interested 1994/5+ np242 have a 16mm wide bearing instead of 24mm used in the previous version.

i couldve ordered the one from rockauto + a new input bearing, but since it was 50$ for the bearing alone i looked elsewhere and found the later version kit on ebay, ended up being 120$US, or 170$CAD, which is pretty good considering only getting the seal and bearing was around 100$. the kit is #BK242B
