did you drive it around without the front driveshaft? that might help narrow it down...would have been the first thing i did.

I will do that tonight. After working On the drive shaft when I have it in the vise I can press hard and rotate the inner ball and hear the same type noise. The ball cup is scored.
I will try it with out the drive shaft installed. Then again the case would not be under load.

I drove it in 4 lo without front drive shaft and no noise. I went back to local auto parts store and they had a precision 607 in stock for 42.95 ball and socket ball by itself was 25.95. The precision joint is greasable unlike the spicer. I know everyone loves spicer but have not had a problem precision.

I have fixed my noise that was a result of a bad ball and socket joint that makes up the double cardon joint by the transfer case.
I was able to rebuild the entire drive shaft with new joints from my local American auto Supply store.
They had a much better price than Oreilly
To rebuild the shaft here is my parts list:
part part #
cost
ball u joint Precsion 607
47.71
U joint Precsion 380
14.43
U joint Precsion 380
14.43
U joint Precsion369
9.1
total before tax 85.67
I'm not sure how much a junkyard would charge for a drive shaft. It's a gamble with JY parts. I like to know I can rebuild something and be sure of what I have. I feel it's the built not bought feeling.
