Default Transfer case linkage / No 4wd

Hey all, 4wd will not engage on my 01 xj 231 t case. Seems the linkage is just spinning around the bolt. Maybe the keyed slot is rounded. I’m planning ordering a new linkage kit. Been hearing some good reviews on Azzys kit but can’t drop $100 on it right now. Anyone had luck with the Amazon kit? Looks similar.

My question is, if the linkage doesn’t solve it.. what would be next steps? I guess crack open t case? Chain? Sigh

I only know the 242, but can you not disconnect the linkage and attempt to move the engagement shaft with locking pliers or similar ?

be easier with tyres off the ground

dont think it would be the chain or you would be hearing it

Are you trying to shift with it moving or sitting still?
How's the fluid level?

your video link did not work for me

I am 99% sure that I moved the TX range on the 242 as previously described, when i swapped out my failed trans, I detached the whole linkage mechanism

anyway, I would take out the entire linkage mechanism, and inspect it on the bench for worn or broken parts

if you have a auto, the range change may be easiest in Neutral

From what I can see on the video the linkage is working but it looks like... Hard to tell. .the nut on the lever on the tc isn't turning. Take the lever off and see if the lever is messed up where it engages the tc shaft.

I have a 2001 with the NV3550/231J transfer case.
I put the Boostwerks Engineering linkage on mine about a year ago and love it.
It does take some work to install, not hard, just tedious.
And you will have to make a couple of adjustments to get it shifting perfect, but
it is very "solid" when shifting.
Also, quite a bit less than $100.00.
Just my 2 cents.
