Default Transfer case linkage problem

hi i own a 1988 jeep xj lifted 4.5" with 33x12.5 mickey thompson mtz with a NP231 t-case and i seem to have a issue with keeping it in 4lo. it will go into 4lo but once i put it in gear and let the clutch out the t-case pops out and makes a grind noise. I had a friend sit under my vehicle and shift the tcase into 4lo and i would lightly tap the linkage and it would pop. just curious if there is any tightments or adjustments that could be made to my linkage? or If i need a new one? or is it a bearing or something inside my transfer case? Im new to this site, but glad i found it because so far it has been very useful. any help is appreciated!!

respectfully,
Dave

I bet you linkage is bent. novak makes a great replacement for the linkage. even makes the shifts so much more smoother
