I recently bought what I thought was a transmission and transfer case to my 96 Cherokee 4.0, with aw-4 transmission. Well it was to a 96 GRAND Cherokee 4.0 with a 42RE transmission and transfer case. Well I have a new transmission picked out but I want to know if I can still use the transfer case. The other transmission is for sale too. PM me if you want it. I appreciate any advice, thanks!

 

I think you have to have the tcase that mates to the AW4, and cannot use one from a different trans.

 

No I'm pretty they are the same mounting points.

 

Well, they look identical to each other. I didn't want to pull everything out and it be off by half an inch haha

 

They won't, it will bolt right up- after all my np231 I swapped into my grand cherokee is from a cherokee with an AW4

 

^^If that's the case then it should work. There isn't much talk of the GC trans on here, I've never had one.
