Okay well today i took off my front drive shaft today to see if it would get rid of my vibration. Well i discovered that the yolk on my t case when i spun it that it sounded rough. could this be where my vib is coming from? Could the bearing in the yolk be shot? i drive a 98 jeep cherokee classic. advice would be greatly appreciated.

 

You prob just heard the chain spinning, they make a little noise. Front drive shafts don't usually cause vibes unless you have a front locker because they aren't under load.

 

Hmm well what else should i go for? the vibration is not as bad when i took out the driveshaft and drove it. Im completly stumped i have bought new tires thinking the tires were bad, replaced driver side hub, replaced both front axle joints, even replaced rear driveshaft bacause it had a ding on it. i dont know what else to do im going crazy this is my third post and still not fixed. Sorry for the rant just want this fixed.

 

Is there a Lift on the Jeep? If so.. do a TCase drop - solve the issue.

 

No lift lol i drive a stocker. stock everything besides the tools in the back.

 

I love this thing to death and dont want to get rid of it over some vibration help me please.

 

Silly but make sure the lugs on the tires are tight - bolts on the Drive shafts are not lose, Trackbar not bent, Axle is straight, and tires are alligned. When you look at the Jeep from the front and rear, do the tires line up or is one axle sticking out further than the other? These are vibe problems.

 

The lugs on the tires i can double check in the morning, will also check other things in the morning. Had an alignment done about two months ago thinking that was the problem. Thanks will let you know

Ok so how are your u-joints when mine were going bad made a vib around 55mph could be your rear u-joint, Is your leaf pack saggy and have negative arch? thats what happened to mine the negative arch threw off the drive angle of the rear drive shaft and wore out the u-joints

Well when i put in the drive shaft i moved around the u joints and they felt fine. No resistance or noises from them. Rear leafs are fine they were put in new at about 220k and the jeep has 265k on it so no they are nice and stiff.

 

Well i checked everything out this morning and it all looks and feels fine where do i go to now? could over packing the cups in a u joint cause a vib i packed them pretty well. lol

 

Yes you probably heard the chain spinning...Front drive shafts DO cause vibes, load or not load. Because the D30 has no hubs, the front drive shaft spins as fast as the rear one which if out of balance will cause vibes. To see if the front is the cause, take it out and it the freeway. If it still has vibrations, then its something else, and obviously if there isn't any vibes then a ujoint is bad or the driveshaft is out of balance.

Have your recently changed the gearing in your axles?

 

Yea i still have the vibrations after taking out the shaft and driving it. no the gearing is stock what it was when i got it. I noticed today when im accelerating around 35 the vibe i can feel it through my steering wheel.Also when driving down the highway i can speed up the vibe gets bad and letting off the gas it gets bad after the speed up. but when i am steady on the gas on flat ground it is fine mostly. any ideas anybody?
