Transfer case update and new question
I posted not too long ago about a transfer case with no fluid and thanks everybody for the input! I had checked the fluid before that’s why I was so surprised there was nothing in it, well I put some in just to find a small hole in the bottom of the case. Welp damn.
Anyways I’m in the process of buying a new one and I’m just curious if the NV231J is the exact same as the NP231J?
My XJ was made in august of 95 if anyone can tell me exactly which T-case is in it. From what I can tell without taking it out fully is that it will be the 23 spline short input. Please let me know if this is correct.
Thanks everybody! This forum is an absolute lifesaver!

I'm not exactly sure. I could answer 242 questions though 🤣 the one piece of advice I can give (and that's if you haven't read it online already) is New Process and New Venture are the same companies. So a NP231 and NV231 are both still 231's, however both transfer cases 100% were not built at the same time, so there may be some changes. I know it's an almost pointless post with little information. But I hope it helps knowing there very well may be a difference

They are the same transfer case, but the newer ones that are labeled NV231 usually don't have the sensor and the speedometer gear in the tail shaft.
