I have a '85 with auto.
Just picked up a dead '84 with a man trans. I am going to swap

Is the gearing in the rear end different and should I swap rear ends?
I am going to lift it and run 31s or 33s

Is there anything else I'll need to think about for the swap?

This is just based on what I read and not from personal experience, so if I get something wrong, I'm sorry, but I know someone will correct it.

Typically, the manual trans models came with a 3.07 rear end while the auto came with 3.55/3.73... so if you'll want to either keep whatever the auto already had or think about regearing to 4.10.

I believe the early models came with a not-so-desirable manual transmission, as well, but let's wait for someone more knowledgeable to chime in.

 

Yeah, the manual in the 84-86s were junk Peugeot transmissions, you won't gain anything from the swap except wasted time and headaches.
