Thanks alot for the details in how to fix this. I have the same problem on my 98 cherokee xj. This looks a little tricky being where it is located, but I think I can make it happen and save me a few bucks as well.

Thanks again,
Cherokee33

Mine was leaking near the rad. I just cut the hose behind the metal part and clamped it over tube. Much easier than your way. Took me all of 5min or so.

Thanks for the write up on your repair, mine started leaking real bad this week & in the same exact place. I was wondering all week how I was gonna fix it without spending any cash then found your write up, Sweet, so that's what I did this morning and all is well again.

Sorry for the bump...

...but I'm looking to do this fix on my tranny line, but the upper part. Is that the same procedure or does that fitting look different. Also, is it a 3/8 hose to a 94 XJ?

generally speaking yes. Not sure about "details" though.
Basically if you don't want to replace the whole line-piece with a brand new one, then you can cut off the bad connector and replace it with common clamp or a pair of them. You also can get the new hose, if yours is in bad shape or if it gets too short after you cut it. Just make sure you get the transmission line type.

good luck

Thanks for the information on this post!, I replaced both of my transmission cooler line hoses today, cut the aluminimum crimped parts as shown and removed the remains and the hose, I disconected the quick release connectors on the rad end and removed the seals from the pipe.
I replaced the hoses with 3/8" transmission hose pusing it over the double ridges (lubricated the pipe with some hylomar blue sealant) its quite a tight fit, clamped with hose clip, just after the ridges.
works fine - another annoying leak fixed - Oil filter adaptor to do next week!!

Just out of interest. If you cut it on one site ( " behind the metal part"), you would still have to cut it on the other side as well, like on the metal tubing in order to be able to reconnect!?

Great post, will be doing this on Monday. Just had my raditor replaced and now I have a new leak on the left side. Tought it was power steering, took it back to mechanic, the cleaned it, added dye, but couldnt find a leak. Drive home, bam, leak.

This is awesome

Great post. I bought a Mishimoto aluminum radiator and could not get the OEM quick snap fitting to seal the line. There was a good leak. I did everything in your post and it works great. Thanks for the write-up.
