Bad news. It held on for a solid 5 seconds before blasting the line off.A huge bummer but I wasn't really banking on it. Time to start soaking bolts I guess.
PB Blaster is cheaper by the gallon. Comes with a spray bottle you can refill.
I just bought a gallon in preparation for doing the brake lines and brakes on my 96.
Curious where you got it with a bottle. I got a gallon at Home Depot and put it in a cheap spray bottle and I always get a heavy coating on my hand as well.
I went in to multiple hardware stores today and couldn't find the studs I need. They all have grade 5 but none had grade 8 for some reason. Does anyone know where I can pick some up online? Thanks.
Sorry for the super late update everyone, got an onslaught of work suddenly and now everything is slowing down again so I'm able to catch up with projects I've had laying around.
Finished the Jeep trans swap about a week ago. I traveled up to a hardware store about 40 minutes away and they had a grade 8 Dorman stud that was 3/8-16 x 3/4 on one side and 3/8-16 x 2 on the other (part no. 675-006 for those who ever need it). I previously tried Dorman 675-101 as it was the only one my local parts store had but it turned out to be too short. Anywho, tranny is in, all mostly fine but there's a bad TC lockup solenoid that I will have to replace sometime (went ahead and took the other one off my old trans). Already went through and probed/tested the transmission control unit wires under the dash with paperclips and a multi-meter so I'm 99% sure this is the issue.
firstly, dont worry if you break the plastic clip trying to get out the metal line...you can replace it with a standard 3/8" Fuel Injection Filter Quick disconnect
alternatively, remove the entire quick disconnect arrangement from start to finish, the radiator end and cooler have flares, and you can screw in a M14 x 1.5 to 3/8" barb connector and go rubber hose on flares all the way
My plastic tabs broke into brittle pieces when I swapped out my trans due to failed reverse
the same size adaptor fits for reading trans pressure
here is a pic of a new plastic tab, and various o-rings (to replace the green ones, of which there are 2)
So I'm in a bit of a bad situation. I removed the transmission cooler line (one closest to the front of the vehicle) so I could drop my transmission pan to replace the leaking RTV gasket. I did that (sucked but I got it done), reinstalled the pan, reinserted all the bolts, and then I started to twist the cooler line back in. Only issue is that it broke off as I was tightening it down. I wasn't even torquing it - just twisting it on there with a wrench, heard a pop, and was hit in the face with a piece of the housing. Not entirely sure if this can be fixed so it might be the end of the road for the Jeep. I added some pics but they aren't the best. Hopefully it's good enough to help you guys get a feel for what the issue is.
i had the same issue except it was my return line and same thing happened and I just pushed the line in there and used like a whole thing of rtv around it to seal it and I did that eariler and i don’t know if it’s going to work and it’s only a temporary fix but it could work and I will and try and come back here and report back
