Transmission done??
2001 cherokee classic auto
Last few cold nights on start up could hear a "buzzing" (like in bees) coming from under drivers seat area. Gears shifting sluggish. Woke up today, started right up! no more buzzing! shift to reverse... nothing! down to drive, nada!
she wouldn't move. I'm devastated. Does this sound like the end? Do bad trannys act this way?
Thanks from newbie!

Check your trans fluid, first with the engine off. Level should appear over full.
Check again with engine running. Level should be lower- at or below "add". This indicates your pump is working, at least marginally.
Also check the transfer case to make sure it hasn't slipped into Neutral. It happens.

checked fluid..it was pretty much dry. added a quart while running, levels seemed perfect. cycled through P,R,N, and D. still no movement. How do I release transfer case out of neutral?

Pump bad?
Would certainly be worth the time to read the code(s) too. Could be useful.
