Lots of failures and clutch slipping after dealers quit using Dex/Merc and switched to atf4.

And the fact that Chrysler waited to do this after all aw4 were out of warranty. Coincidence? No

No. Why would you use a Chrysler fluid in a Toyota transmission designed to GM specifications?

My jeep with 150k hasnt had the trans fluid changed for well over 100k miles, and was BLACK and STUNK.

I bought 2 "12" pack cases of Peak Dex/Merc III off of amazon for dirt cheap, drained the pan, put the same amount back in, and everytime i hit 100 miles, i would do it again. By the time i hit 20 quarts, it was red as a cherry and clean as a babys butt. I then went on to adjust the Throttle valve cable, and now i have a transmission which feels brand new

I decided to do all of this thanks to the help of all these helpful guys on this site. Just do that!

I havent changed out the filter
I have a '96 ('95 built) Cherokee Sport with AT sitting on 291K's and I don't see any issues on the tranny yet. But the oil definitely seems to be burnt when I smell it from the dip stick. So, as a preventive measure, should I try and change the filter or just do a oil drain and top up? Will Castrol ATF Dex III will work to top and mix with the old oil already in there (I don't know what oil was used last)?

Great, thanks. Last question, the drain plug torque spec? Or just tighten it to what feels right?
