Default Transmission issue

I have 01 sport ,automatic, that will not move in reverse, it moves forward in neutral, while in drive it operates fine. Sometimes when starting it lunges a little bit. I have changed fluid and filter, fluid level is ok. I have disconnected shifter cable and shifted by hand still does the same thing, so cable is ok. Any help will be appreciated.

will it roll while in reverse? If you "rev'' the engine, can you get reverse to engage?

Sounds like the cable adjustment might be off. There is a clamp at the transmission end you can loosen to get the cable back in sync.

Sounds like it may be a Valve Body fault, or Clutch or Brake fault in the transmission.

You may want to do a cold trans fluid check to see if the Torque Converter and/or the trans oil pump is working properly. See pic below. If the fluid level does not drop, as described, the oil pump or TC may be faulty. If it does drop, I would suspect the Valve Body, clutches, or brakes in the trans.
