Hi all! I just jumped on the XJ wagon and love it! I picked up an 01XJ yesterday. Today while changing the oil I was looking at the transmission and noticed this Is there supposed to be a bolt there? Anyone know the size?
The photo is for Identification purposes only mine is still installed just weird theres a hole with no bolt. Transmission fluid level looks to be ok. Thanks
In the above picture, the cardboard would be the back of the engine and the transmission mounts to the surface you see If you look at the back of the engine block, it's basically flat, so when you bolt the circular "bellhousing" you show above to the flat engine, the bottom part of the bellhousing is open. To keep junk from getting into this opening, a metal cover, the inspection cover, bolts to the face of the bellousing, using the bolt your missing, as well as the two to the right and left of it. Yes, two great big bolts, and a little tiny one to hold on a small sheet metal cover... The little bolt you're missing is pretty much useless, unless you're getting a rattle, and is just another tool you'll forget to grab before getting down onto the floor the next time you need to get in there...
