Default Trany mount question...

Ok so I got the new trany mount today... On the threaded studs that slide through the crossmember they have rubber around them..My question is do I remove that rubber or leave it on that and just thread the nut over it? It's a pretty stiff ribber and looks to be pretty tuff to remove.. So anyone who has replaced theirs have a clue?

Remove before installing. I just did mine and it came the same way. I'm pretty sure they are just sleeves to protect the threads during packaging and shipping.

Any suggestions on getting those sleeves off without damaging the threads? Doesn't seem to have any top en extra to pull on..

I guess I will take a razor blade and see if I can score them and remove em.. The issue they are wrapped tight with no excess over the edge.. Should be fun trying to pull those suckers off..

As it sits the jeep is sitting with a bottle jack and jack stand holding the trany in place, cross member off and old mount off. Oh and did I mention it's raining like crazy outside...Glad I decided to put a stand under it since I don't trust leaving a bottle jack over night..

You should be able to cut them off with an exacto knife. Be careful with the threads but the knife shouldn't damage them

Just to add..I think I solved my vibe issues... The rear part of the trany mount was basically broken down and caused the trany to lean a bit which I think was causing issues. I have driven it quite a bit and so far no vibes.

OKC who did you order your tranny mount from and how much did it cost. I think you just helped me have a huge revelation. I have a clunk issue when going from D to R and P to D or R. Now, I have noticed a vibe that gets worse when I step on the gas hard and when going through 25-35 MPH while hard on the gas. You think I might have the same issue as you? You have a 91, Mike has a 91. You guys have both swapped your tranny mount. I have a 91 and I have not swapped my tranny mount. I also have a TC drop kit on my XJ. This can't be good on the tranny mount. I am currently gathering pieces to do a HB SYE, though. Pics and write will follow.

Well I could feel my trany clunk at the trany hump inside the jeep. When I would start the jeep trany would rattle. I could visually tell my mount was bad but once removed it was obvious it was in poor shape. I got mine at Autozone and it's the Anchor brand which both Oreilly and Advanced sells just didn't have in stock. Was $33. Now if you notice that thunk issue when going from D to R also check your u-joints. I am still going to replace my DS u-joints and eventually get an SYE.

IMHO if you have never replaced the trany mount replace it. Same goes with the motor mounts. A bad trany mount can ruin and stress motor mounts.

Next up for me are ball joints, hubs, and axle shaft u-joints. Then Cross over home built steering setup with heims.
