Go full detroit. You'll barely notice it on the road. I've been running a rear detroit for years in all my rigs and the only time you even know it's there is when you gas on it around a turn.

for the rear i would def go full Detroit locker. i have run a Detroit locker out back in my Dana 44 with a 5 speed for 2 years now. i drive it on the street all the time. i never notice bad characteristics in the rain, except one time when i let the clutch go to hard and did a burnout. but i hear it on slow turns (like a clicking sound) but that just tells me it is still there. now if you gun it around turn then you are gonna definitely loose traction, but i love the full locker out back. but i run the tru trac up front and have no complaints either. it is smooth, no back lash, and i still know it is there. just stick your np231 in to part time on the street, you will know it is there. i go rock climbing sometimes and with no issues. but i go in the mud and snow alot more so i needed the potential to slip up front and go around turns with both wheels locked. just matters what you want to do for the front. but i would never steer from my full locker out back. best buy i ever made! well best buy besides buying a jeep that is

Hmm, I don't even know where to start. I have several of the issues highlighted in my build thread and there are a few other posts on here where I have talked about the problems I have had with it. Many people love them and have had no issues with them what so ever. However, I am not one of those people. Mine was nothing but a very large PIA from the very beginning. One good thing I can say is, the company has EXCELLENT customer service and has gone above and beyond to try and correct the situation. I just broke another locker on Saturday and the Tech guy called me on Monday asking what they can do to correct the situation. I told them not to worry about it I am done messing with it and I have already ordered a Detroit. He said to call them back once I find the problem and they would take care of me (now what that means I don't know, I will call after the holidays). But to make a very long story short I now have close to $1000 in my back axle due to all the time, oil, rtv, original locker, parts, new axle shafts, and now a detroit. Had I gone with a detroit from the beginning, I would have saved myself a TON of money!

As long as you don't hammer it around a turn and have good tires (not old dry rotted things posing as tires) then they handle no differently. I have BFG KM2 and not once have I ever had a problem around a turn in rain, except for in a mall parking lot where I purposely fished tailed around a corner to show my little brother and girlfriend why they shouldn't do it if they ever drove my Jeep for some reason.

I just installed the Detroit last night, I will post pics later, but for right now I have about 50 miles on it and it drives amazing! It is quieter than the Aussie and has not bad manners that I have seen yet. Honestly, I don't even know its there (save for a very small amount of lash stopping or pulling away from a stop). I will be driving 120 miles today all highway with back part country roads so I will have more of a review then.

HAPPY THANKSGIVING EVERYONE!!!

Detriot Tru Trac's;
The videos linked earlier in this thread are of my rig. Some of what you saw was bad driving. That is the thing with the tru-trac's, if you get a wheel in the air you need to manipilate them with brake to make them work. Done right they work amazingly well. Around town they are a dream. Invisable, which is what I want.

Detroit Locker;
Never had one, but sure would like them off road.
Been in rigs that have one, and would not want to deal with one on a daily driver.
Some folks are willing to put up with more than others.
Of the 3 friends that went to detroit lockers on thier daily drivers, 2 have bought new daily drivers, 1 took the detroits out and went back to open/open.

I drove over 200 miles yesterday on mine and couldn't even tell it was there. Not once did it ever pop or ratchet or do anything unexpected. I considered the tru-trac and after reading several posts about having to use brake to get them to lock up I decided that the true locker was the way I would rather go. I just installed it Wednesday so I haven't had a chance to take it wheeling yet but on road it definitely gets

i have full detroit lockers front and rear, i use my jeep as my dd, i live in alaska so we have a good amount of snow right now and the locker in the rear is really sketchy at times. i have an axle swap on the front so i have manuel hubs and the only way i can run 4wd when driving around town is only lock one hub otherwise my jeep wont turn one but. with both hubs locked in it just push's through corners.

Tried it out for the first time off road since I installed it. Have to say I love it.

Thank you tony for taking the video.

so what about a locker on the front with the 4x4 cable? is it still ok without the axle engaged?

A cable actuated locker should still give you "4x4" but the axle will just act like an open diff.
