two problems? please help!
I have an 88 xj and the first problem is the stearing wheel was to lose which I fixed but now my bright lights do not work so I need to know what the easiest way to fix that? My next problem is that have an after market air intake on the jeep and need to know what needs to be hooked up where because my mechanic will not pass it for inspection because he said it was not hooked up right. I dont know because I just bought it and it is my first vehicle. here are some pics of the air intake setup. thanks for the help.

The one hose goes from your valve cover to your air intake and the other one goes from your airintake to your canister on the other side of the bay kinda by the oil filter. Im not 100% on your year tho.

this is a Renix like yours, and that one that has the white plug on it goes to one of the two little ones on the back of the airbox. that is attached to a thermal switch and goes to the front of the air box.

yeah my neighbor has a 91 and when I had to go through and redo all of my vacuum lines his was no help. I eventually found a good vacuum diagram in my repair manual that could be traced, and mine is correct or as correct as the diagram anyway. the basic difference between those big hoses is, ours are reversed.

oh I dont know if this helps but my jeep also stalls when ever you feather the gas pettal like if you were driving through a drive through and have to put just a little gas to get it to go forward then it will stall, But if you give it good gas then it does not stall. and its an automatic just so you know. thanks

not to sure on the brights problem...what do you mean by your steering wheel was loose and where did you fix it?
on the pic of my airbox the 2 little tubes in the foreground sticking out of the back of the box. one of those is what attaches to your white plug. the routing from the white plug goes to one of the little tubes which is attached to a thermal "door" that in turn allows vacuum to go to the other little tube (just next to it). that goes to the front of the lower airbox to an actual door that sucks in heat by the radiator at start up to help warm the engine up. your setup doesn't have it, that is why the little white plug is there, you don't need to worry about that connection.
I noticed you have cruise control it is the round canister thing just up and to the right of your coolant bottle..mine doesn't work either, it seems like no ones works but just wanted to see if you had the rare working cruise control.

Also invest in a multimeter if you don't have one. just go to a sears and pick one up that is around $30. on these renix XJ's you can't really plug them in...well you can but no one has the tool anymore it was called a DRBII they are Pre OBD. you can trouble shoot just about every sensor with a multimeter and if you search this site or do a google search you can find what and where to probe and what the reading should be.
