could be d35 (2 3/4" ubolts) or a chrysler 8.25 (3" ubolts). i'm sure theres a link around here for axle identification.

The ABS question only gives a definite answer if he has it. With ABS it is a Dana 35 axle, without ABS it could be either the Dana 35 or the Chrysler 8.25. So if you do not have ABS, there is absolutely no way for us to tell you what kind of axle you have without a pic.

Only way to tell is to figure out which rear end you have. I have found that Chrysler is more common. Absent knowing for sure, if you get Chrysler and need the Dana ones, I have a set that came with my RC kit I would trade. It would be through the mail, but I'd be willing.

Only modified Cherokee's have any other brake set up. there is no way to know without looking, I believe Dana has a bolt in diff plug whereas Chrysler has a rubber plug

That does not help. All XJs are front disc, rear drum.

Only way to know is to check the diff, does the plug bolt in or is it rubber or to measure, Dana has 2.62 axle housing diameter, Chrysler has 3 inch.
