It will have c clips holding it in,either on the outer ends of the caps or the inner part of the cap. Its been a while since i did the ones on my d-shaft,so i cant remeber.either way if its the inner a straight slot screw driver and small hammer to tap them out works well.and if its the outer i like to use needle nosev vice grips to re move them. Then either use some sockets to both place it on and to beat them out,or get a ball joint press to get them out.the zone loans them out with a 135.00 dollar deposit.the press will save you some head ache

Press one side out, remove the cap from that side, then press the u joint back through to press the other side out.remove that cap then it will slip out.

That press is the way to go,the next best thing ive used is a 3/4 inch rod and 3 lb hammer.there never easy on older stuff, ive replaced every one on my jeep and want to buy one of them presses i liked it so much.

In a pinch, a 18 or 19 mm socket and a BFH with a 4x4 on each side of the shaft.

Or place on an open vice. Wish I wish I would have seen this, I just (like an hour ago) just swapped both of my rear drive shaft u-joints, I could have taken photos...

But uTube to the rescue!
