Are you talking about getting the u-joints from the JY??? If so, I wouldn't do it. U-joints you buy new not from a jy... Why would you want to buy old u-joints that may have been abused??? BTW, Getting u-joints from a jy would not be an up grade. It would be more like a down grade...

Maybe I worded it wrong I have the small joints in mine and want to go bigger I was under the impression I needed new axle shafts to go with the bigger joint so I was gonna pull a comeat shaft that had 297 joints in them and just take old out and put new but if I can put the bigger 297 in my shafts now that have the smaller one I will

Looks like if you find the shafts out of a '95-'99 XJ with the D30, they have the larger U-Joints you want. Does yours have the vacuum disconnect? If you're not sure, look underneath at the passenger side axle tube and you should see some vacuum lines going down to the tube and a square section where the lines go.
If you do have that, I think you can install the new (full length) shafts without issue, but someone would have to confirm that. I'm not sure if there are seals in there or not you'd have to address.
EDIT: And for future upgrade references.... https://www.cherokeeforum.com/f2/bud...herokee-58797/

OP if you want the 297(760) 96'-99' will have them, and 91'-95' with ABS brakes will have those shafts.

If it's a solid axle with no disconnect, you should have no problem swapping the shafts, just get either ABS or non-ABS, depending on your Jeep. As for shafts from a GC, I think some came with the low pinion D30. There might be some differences in the HP and LP shafts, but I don't know. I'm still learning a lot myself.

Here is some good info,
http://www.therangerstation.com/tech...y/Dana30.shtml
Shafts from 96-99 are best as they are meant for the beefier u-joints.
For u-joints the Dana Spicer life series are great, they last a long, long time.
