Under Dash Wiring
My 92 wiring was hacked up by the previous owner. The radio was missing, and there are a bazillion wires that aren't original under the dash. One is just hanging there and the wiring group right under the dash between the drivers legs keeps falling down onto my foot if I hit the brakes hard. There is no power going to the power seats or the side view mirrors. All fuses are good and all the relays are present. How the hell can I get this sorted out without taking it to a shop?

swap the whole dash harness. that means getting one from someone on the forums here.
we'd need to know what the engine/trans options are to ensure that you get the correct harness.
it's fairly straight forward to remove the dash and access the harness, and I'll be doing a write-up soon on how to do it.

heres an idear that might help usally with an aftermarket alarm with remote start first off there will be about 30extra wires and one will go to your brake switch
alot of people when selling there car usally take out the alarm if its aftermarket before selling it some times they get lazy and only take the brain of the alarm and leave the harness which might be the cause of alot of extra wires and perhaps the one going to your brake is grounding out ive seen it many many times working at an audio and alarm shop also another tip if you ever get a used car off a dealer ship usally if it has an alarm already installed and you say you dont want it they leave it in the car and just take the remote for it so all you would need is a new remote ive gotten many alrams from people not knowing they already have one so they buy a new one
take a picture and i could tell you if thats what the extra wires go to

Thanks! I'll get on this Saturday when I have time and don't need the Jeep. If anyone has a write up or instructions on how to take the dash apart and how to tell what's factory and what's not I'd really appreciate it. I'm good with mechanics, but wiring scares me.

my jeep was the same exact way when i got it. the alarm was cut but the wires were left. i had a red, blue, yellow, and black wires that were definitely hooked up to an alarm. see if you have an alarm under the hood. in my 95, it's right behind the battery. that should at least help you get started.

Don't see any alarm. There is a strange green wire in the engine compartment running from the battery to the firewall and a thick black cable of three wires (red, black, yellow) running from under the dash to no where. I also see a black wire running from the engine compartment fuse box to somewhere. Tomorrow I'll have time to take apart the dash and have a better look, but I still need to know what "right" looks like. I'd like to have original wiring so my power seats work again, the cruise control works, and the blinkers function right on the dash. Currently, when turning left or right, everything is fine on the outside, but the 4 way dash lights go on instead of individual signal arrows. Somebody help me!!

Not trying to hijack ur post...
but I have a problem... I snipped some wires under my dash tonight, thought i grabbed the ones marked speaker but when I cut them my interior lights when off, radio and gauges. I looked at it with a flash light and I must had cut the wrong ones because the ones labelled speakers were still intact oops, i tried putting then back together but it wont give out any power. i think the black plastic thing connected to it that i cut off, it looks like an adapter to me, is this the reason, the thing that held them together b4... HELP?!?!
