Default Unibody problems

I was talking to my friend about my rusted out floor pans and he told me that you had to replace the whole body because of the unibody construction and cutting out the old floor pans to replace them would make the already weak frame even weaker and lots of work so does anyone know about this I have a few wholes in my floor pans but have no welder and very little welding skills this is a definite problem and just wanted to know If this was true and what's the most cost effective solution to this problem

Why like this? Haha.. No. It's not a problem. You can get new floor pans, or just new sheet metal..

That hole was just one of many...

I need to replace just about all the floor pan will it make my jeep structurally weaker and doing it with floor pans should I cut out the wholes and patch them or just replace the whole pan budget is not a concern just want a stable not rusty truck

OMG!! It's FINE!!! Cutting out your floor pans or, grinding, using sealant and covering over preexisting floorboards with new sheet metal will NOT weaken anything!!! Your floorboards are as structurally important as your arm rest!

Edit- not to say chopping the hell outta your floor boards and not properly replacing them is a good idea, but just use the search function and do some research...

If its patchable, then patch it, if front floor pans are shot, replace them. Did passenger side and didn't notice a difference...

Besides, your Jeep is Uni-Frame construction, not Uni-Body.

You can make it stronger than factory with cutting them out. Go het 16g and make new ones

Also think of it like this...Having new metal in there is MUCH better than no metal or a pile of rust flakes.

I've seen several different names in reference the construction. Monocoque, uni-frame/body... Os one really more accurate or appropriate in describing jeeps design? Seriously wondering! Thanks..

To the best of my understanding unibody/frame are the same thing. Monocoque is a bit different in that there are no "frame rails" at all. Since the XJ has "frame rails" it would be considered unibody/frame.
