Default UpCountry package pondering...

I have the UpCountry package on my rusty babe.
so this comes with higher suspension...etc.

my question is, the stock tires were 215/75/R15.

Why would they put smaller tires on a Jeep with an offroad package?
Isnt the standard size on the cherokee 225/75/15?
The sticker on the drivers side door lists the tires as 215 but my build sheet that I just got from a dealer says they came with 225's.

Don't quite get it.

215/75/15 is the smallest stock tire u can get for an xj and 235/75/15 is the lasrgest you can get for a stock xj. but you are right that doesnt make any sense at all

i agree with clayton3854. the only thing that i can make sense of, is that the dealer prob owned an xj themselves and prob swapped out the tires from 225's to 215's.

yeah or a PE bc no way jeep sold the upcountry package with those size tires. but im sure you can find a set of tires pretty cheap on craigslist. or take it up with the dealer and see if you can get a set outta him.

Yeah, I dont quite understand. But whats strange is that the sheet on the door has it written as 215, which means thats what came out of the factory (unless somehow they changed this?). Weird.

Either way, looking to get some 235's. Any specific recommendations? I was thinking of getting a solid A/T, something with a little beef to it, but still decent for a DD.

Another question related to this...

I would like to replace the shocks on her.
Would I be able to use a length suited for a stock XJ? Or do I need to have longer ones taking the lift into consideration?

The height is about 18.5 inches in the front, and about 18 average in the back. (measured from center of wheel to fender flares).

not sure if it makes a difference... but the passengers side rear (~17.75) sits about 3/4" to 1" lower than the drivers side (~18.5).

I used to run AT's on my BAMF dually chevvy beast, they were awesome tires, not too loud, good onroad manners, awesome wet driving abilities, they were O.K. in mud (not the best, but not the worst, just mediocre performance), good rock crawling grip, and the best part is I could plow curbs and huge rocks all day long and not do a thing to those tires...

BFG AT's...all the way. I got the Firestone Destination AT's....they are all right, but every time I see some of those BFG's I wish I had gotten them instead. Oh well, the price was right on the Firestones (buy 3 get 1 free).

you should be ok with stock XJ shocks. there isn't enough of a difference in height to need an extended shock

I just found some stock jeep rims with 235's with over 60% tread left for 230. Got 5 rims/tires. Good deal! As my Jeep didnt have any matching rims and tires were dry rotted.

Thats a decent deal. a good deal would be 5 tires/4 rims two of the tires have 80% tread, two have 50% and the spare has 90%....in 31x10.50 form too and for $200
