upper CA axle bushings dana 30
has anyone replaced these before? I was installing an additional 1" spacer and noticed my bushings are torn off the steel exterior casing. THis is probably what's been causing my bumpsteer and shakes i bet. I know these are pressed in but can i use my ball joint press to do it? Or is that not enough?

I have changed them with a piece of pipe and a C-clamp, but the diff was sitting on the floor not still in the Jeep.

I will definately take the axle out or at least drop it down and twist it forward for easier access. I know if i leave it under there i will have blood running down my head . I'll try my c-press (ball joint press) and if that doesn't do it, i'll drill holes all around the bushing and start cutting it out.

I used a 4" piece of about 2" diameter pipe and a c-clamp with a big socket and pushed the old bushing into the pipe and then reversed it to press the new bushing back in. Would have used the porta-power but there was no way to get it in place to press it out and back in. C-clamp was about a 12" one that I inhereted from my Dad and it was probably new at the turn of the last century who knows but it worked. This was on a 92 XJ a couple of years back. Keep in mind I am only a couple of years younger than dirt.

I did it with an HF ball joint press kit. Its not terribly fun. I had the axle hanging from the lowers and swung down.
Hopefully, your RockAuto experience goes better than the three I had...
