If the end is truly messed up and chewed up just call some shops that do drive shafts and see how much it would cost to fix that end..

it looks like it is ok in the pics, but I agree that a drive line shop is your best bet if you can't get the old joint out. It would be much less than a new shaft.

The one thing i've been noticing is the amount of play the joint has in between the two caps.. could that have any effect on it?

I took both of the clips off that were on the outside holding the caps. Also, I have it hanging over a 2x4 when I'm hitting it. I can't seem to figure it out.

take the bigger sledge hammer or shovel you got place a socket on the cap have someone hold the shaft and swing!

on my explorer we had to put the yoke in a vise to hold it for us while my buddy's 300+ pound dad grunted at it with a medium sledge- they can be hard.

in the one pic it looks like the shaft is a bit beat down. I would suggest putting that side up and trying to press the joint down that way, in case the yoke is mushed up and preventing them from coming out.

Sounds like the wood may be absorbing the impact as well, rather than your joint. get something hard under it. Concrete, steel I beam, something.

Nothing's working... I have it held down by two people- it doesn't move at all, and have it's hanging over a 2 inch concrete ledge. I've been pounding on it with a sledge non stop and still nothing.

go to the junk yard and get one or if you have a vise use it as a press.

I've called all the yards in the area, none have anything available at the moment.

Does anyone know of any other ways or techniques to remove it? Any help at all would be great! Thanks
