Have you tried using the ball joint press? You can get one from most auto parts stores as a 'rental' where you give them money and you get it all back when you return it.
It will push that ujoint right out.

From the looks of the end in the pictures and by now after all the pounding, if you haven’t already cut the cross out it’s probably your only option now. After you have the caps out you should dress up the ends with a die grinder before trying to put the new U-joint in. Hopefully the grooves for the clips are not damaged also. You still may need to replace the D/S if it’s too mangled.

Well guys.. i've tried everything.. I couldn't even cut through it, nothing's working.. So my only option is to save up for a replacement driveshaft. :/ So if any one is selling one for an '89 XJ let me know. Thanks

I wish I was around when this thread started... Propane or MAPP torch. You heat the ever living **** out of the yoke, then let it cool and spray the hell out of it with pene. fluid. Repeat this process until it wants to come out. Try with an arbor press and keep steady pressure on it over a long period of time and keep that torch handy.
Once you get it out, scotchbrite the area with some cleaner and then lube it with something like wd-40 or 1-lube.

I've been asking around if any one has a press I can use, so far no luck. Can't drive the jeep without that fixed either so I need something quick as it's my DD.

Is it safe to drive with only the front drive shaft attached?

have you been looking for a new one? try www.car-part.com and find a yard close to your house for a used one, or try craigslist.

I cant believe that thing is giving you such a fight. I've seen crusty old shafts that looked like they were pulled from the bottom of the ocean give less of a fight.

Yes, I've talked to a bunch of yards in the area and they have nothing at the moment.

I can't believe it either.. it just wont come out for anything.
