Using ethanol free gas

If it's 1/2" of buildup, that's enough to actually be concerned with.
Yes, people do get wrapped up with "ethanol problems". It gets a bad reputation, but in the thousands of cars that I have worked on at dealerships and independent shops, I have never seen any problems caused by ethanol fuel. It's an easy scapegoat for a person's own neglect.

Well, regardless of what the buildup is, i’m going to clean it all up, and take it back off in about 5k miles to see what’s left, and go from there

I must have something else (China) going on then as I am confident that it isn't neglect to expect rubber fuel parts to last more than 6 months which is how often I am replacing lines, gaskets and caps because they have developed vacuum leaks again.

There is no fuel in the intake manifold. Only air. The fuel is introduced by the injectors where the intake manifold meets the head.
What most folks are seeing is crankcase fumes that stuck to a hot intake manifold. No big deal.

From a strictly MPG aspect the ethanol free fuel didn't add any benefit that could outweigh the increased cost...We tried it on various sized vehicles in the work fleet to run the testing.. To make a long story short the best outcome money wise was to use a better grade of ethanol fuel which bumped the MPG up per each tank full....
