The canister on my DD 90 xj was broken, I pulled out the plastic repair kit I keep in my trail rig, and I now have working heater vents...

YAY

Mine work, but don't seem to be blowing really nice hot air. It's kinda lukewarm...

That is more than likely a heater core issue then. The heat side of things isnt vaccum controlled, its cable controled (atleast on my 90) If the heat isnt hot its usually signs of a clogged heater core.

I found a great way to get more than enough heat out of my 91. **** a waterpump seal....LOL. That baby got hotter than hay-ell!! Seriously, if you're not getting any heat inside and you know your heater core is good. I'd say your heater control valve is bad or leaking or you have a thermostat that is stuck open.

heater cores are cheap.. probably $20 at the parts stores. Changing them requires removal of the entire dash.

My cherokee ran 230 degrees when I first got it. (it has the Renix style system in it)
I replaced all hoses, and did a coolant flush, it dropped my temps to 210. I replaced the thermostat and water pump and its HARD to hit 190 now. I had to put cardboard infront of my radiator to get it to heat up enough to keep more warm.

Well, I heard a loud squealing noise come from that general region last night, I'm not quite sure if it was related....

loud squealing would probably be the blower motor. they are $32 at autozone.

It's blowing air, just not hot air. I'll look into the heater core later.

Mine worked and squeeled from time to time so I repalced it. Motor wont effect the tempt just the speed. That was yoru squeal. Temp is either s temp switch malfunction or a heater core.

When you move the heat selector (COLD>>>>>>>>>>>>HOT)
Do you feel ANY resistence?

Both of my XJ's had the cable-end pop off at the flapper door.
Easy to fix, its right under dash on passenger's side.
A cheapo pal-nut and good as new.

Sometimes referred to as a push-nut.

No real threads just a spring-clip thats forced onto a pin or rod.

I think it has many names.
