On my 2000 xj my canister is missing. I have no idea what it really does either lol. Would not having a cannister cause my jeep to lack power and for crappy heat?

 

it may effect power because it is a vacuum leak....and the crappy heat would be your thermostat, and with it being winter i would fix that asap

but without that it essentially creats a vacuum leak. some people plug it up with a screw or something, and that fixes most issues, but you will find that when you are on the throttle there is no reserve vacuum for several accessories which will give you several issues

 

I have a fail safe thermostat installed so that shouldn't be the problem. Can someone please take a picture of the cannister and the routing of the vaccum lines so I can figure mine out. Thanks
