Default Vaccuum hose connection

Hey all. I've noticed a slight whistle from my engine bay for a few weeks now and it hasn't bothered be enough to deal with, I figured it was a slight air leak somewhere.
There's no noise at idle, but once I give the engine a rev, it starts up and has now developed into more of a suction/whining noise -- which is quite annoying.

I did some poking around and determined that the noise is coming from a hose that goes into the intake manifold, actually the piece of soft rubber that connects the hose to the manifold. The front most hose on the rear half of the intake manifold is the culprit. When the engine is running and I straighten this piece of tubing out, the noise stops entirely.

My questions are:
1. Does this set up look normal? Some of the other lines have elbow fittings.
2. What can I do exactly to fix it?

You can just replace the end on the manifold. Get something studier, an elbow if you wish.

That looks like soft washer fluid hose, which is not what you want. You want fuel line hose or hard rubber emissions hose. Most parts stores have a display somewhere on the sales floor with vacuum lines and fittings.

Yeah it looks a little odd to me. When the engine is revved, it's almost like the hose gets pinched right there.

Thanks for the help!

Yeah, when you rev the engine and back off the throttle, you create a tremendous of vacuum momentarily. That vacuum could cause that wonky piece of hose to collapse. As said above, you can likely find fittings in any decent auto parts store.

The thing you want to watch out for is the size of the plastic line compared to the size of the nipple on the intake manifold.
If they are both the same size a piece of the appropriate hose will do.
The thing is that they are not always the same size.
On my '00 there are 3 vacuum lines and with the middle one the plastic line is a different size then the nipple on the exhaust manifold.
So you really can't use a piece of hose there.
Found a rubber elbow that is for a Ford but works just right to take care of that problem on my Jeep.

I was able to get a couple different sizes of vacuum hose from the auto parts store. I didn't know exactly the size so they showed me what they had and I eye balled it.

It was a tight fit over the plastic line, but it fit with a little effort. Snipped it to the right length and its been working fine since Saturday morning! No more whistle or whiny suction noise!

Thanks everyone!
