Sorry, guys, but there will never be another BimmerJ.
Think about it, at this stage in this thread, Bimmer would have published a list of at least 37 tools he had assembled or was attempting to assemble before beginning to loosen the first fastener.

It's interesting that no one is dogpiling the first person to respond in the thread with totally incorrect information. Very telling as to what you want the place to be. I'm not Bimmer. Sorry to disappoint you.

Look man, the first post had a socket size incorrect...however, the slight difference between SAE and metric shouldn't be a factor here. You could use a socket that's close and be able to remove the nuts on the studs without issue, they are on in inch pounds. Telling as to what we want the place to be? Someone else chimed in with the correct info later, THAT'S how we want the place to be, with members who are worth their salt, and with useful hints and tips to make this forum a better place. Not a bunch of whiney-a$$ posts about what they think of engineers and what-not...that's what got you into trouble here, nothing else.

1) Deep sockets are not "special" tools. They are some of the most basic tools you need to work on a vehicle.
2) If you had a set of tools in general, trial and error for ten seconds would've helped you determine the size of the nuts and bolts.
3) You don't have metric and standard socket sets, yet you find yourself knowledgeable enough to comment on the "engineering" of the valve cover.

There are a few key reasons you are getting flak for this.
