valvoline transmissionīcambelt noise
hello everyone,
my manual 2001 cherokee sport 2.5 td is giving me a hard time.
the gears donīt function properly.
i have to switch the motor off to either get 2nd in or reverse in order to park.
1st gear is out of the question.
i was hoping its a valvoline issue.
does any one know the amount of oil this car needs for the gearbox?
apart from this, the cambelt is making a squeaking/squealing noise.
are belt dressings good for this?
regards

I don't know the amount off hand, myself. I might buy four quarts (liters), and save the receipt to return any unopened.
The chain turning your cam is not squeaking. The serpentine belt driving everything up front will squeak it it's not tightened properly. I wouldn't use dressings myself. Once one of mine that was tight still chirped until I rinsed it with a running hose and dish soap idling, ending with a long rinse to make sure no soap remained. Cheers!

Sounds like your transmission is shot. Adding fluid is cheap enough, so it's worth a try.

As for the serpentine belt, a buddy of mine bought a new truck. From day one the belt squeaked. He put baby powder on it and it worked. ..... until it started squeaking again.

By the way, it would be really helpful if you can post what country you're in...
VM Motori 2.5L TD uses timing gears, like a real engine. None of this FWD car BS.

No, I don't lick fish.
lol.. you can tell the ones that use computers for a living. Salad, I think you and me should get lifetime member discounts from RockAuto as much business as we give them. If I didn't need the alternator RIGHT NOW, I'd be buying that from them too.

Aussie or Brit? It IS always helpful to fill out your info. Yes for this it's easily findable in post one, but we shouldn't need to search for it. (say from page two)

FYI
Belt dressings are for V-belts, not serpentine belts. As mentioned, it will degrade the material it is made of. Serpentine belts can create a glaze on the smooth pulleys that will cause slippage/squeaking.
