Very 1st Oil change EVER !
I'm about to do a oil change on a 2000 cherokee sport 4.0 (179,000 miles).
I want to put a good oil/filter
My head is spinning with all the posts on which brand oil. I want to use a Shell Rotella oil .
My question is which one ? And what grade 10/30w , 10/40w ?....
I'm very confused , live in new england
I will be using a Wix 51085 filter
Any help would be great

I use the set up Ken mentioned. At NAPA, the filter is a NAPA Gold 1515. Same thing. If you with that filter, it is a larger capacity than the stock size and requires and extra half quart.

I usually just grab a Fram filter and a 5 QT jug of 5/30 from autozone for 20 bucks as a bundle deal. I am gonna change it again in 2500 to 3000 miles anyway. However if the engine was fairly new or built then I would go the extra mile and get a oversize filter. With that many miles I see using the 5/40 because tolerances aren't as precise after that many miles.

^This, the low-end Frams ("Orange-Can" and to a lesser extent "Tough-Guard") are absolute junk among the worst of the worst oil filters you can buy, and are overpriced to boot, a Purolator Classic or Napa Silver are about the same price as an "Orange-Can" Fram, but are much better filters.
Fram's higher-end filters (Ultra-Synthetic) are decent, but there are still better filters for the price.
There is really no reason to use a Fram oil-filter unless you can't get anything else.

Frams are great for some things. Just not prolonging the life of your engine.
